For the second anime of fall 2014, we'll be looking at I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying, otherwise known as Danna ga Nani o Itte Iru ka Wakaranai Ken. If you haven't seen episode one yet, do yourself a favor and watch it right now. Even if you didn't like it, it's only three minutes long. But in those three, very short minutes, this anime manages to fling jokes left and right and forces you to rewind to catch the joke. This isn't a negative whatsoever, but rather what makes it so fun.
You also gotta really love the references in this episode. For example, we have Mashiro from Engaged to the Unidentified (who our Glasses-kun calls his waifu).
I would die without my beautiful boys. |
Another, which may or not be true, is from what I believe is Captain Earth.
You know, the whole leaning forward and the mech speeds up and stuff. |
While Glasses-kun is a total otaku, his wife on the other hand has no freaking clue about the anime world. Rather, she finds it strange and has a hard time finding the appeal of it.
My friend, it is very interesting. |
She also doesn't understand the whole "waifu/husbando" thing—
—which I found pretty hilarious, because I can imagine friends and family being confused about the terminology.
However, instead of constantly criticizing it as a "porn" or whatever, she keeps an open mind about it. In fact, she goes sees an anime movie with him. But the funny thing is, while he criticized it and ultimately decided it was "shit," she didn't think at all when watching it and had a far better time. This really reminds me of me when I go to the movies with the family. While they enjoyed Frozen, I was far more critical about it, thereby finding less enjoyment than them.
Similarly to The Bookstore in the Electric Town, this anime focuses on simply slice of life and comedy. But for some reason, I'm enjoying this far more than the other one. Maybe it's because this one is only five minutes long (actually it's shorter than that), but I think this is a very well-made slice of life. I highly recommend you watch this, but I suggest you wait till all thirteen episodes are released before marathoning through it. I, on the other hand, will be watching this as it airs, so expect weekly posts about this series. ;) And with that, take care, otakus!
